Stephen Menotti is a trombonist dedicated to the development of a modern repertoire as a soloist, chamber musician, improviser, and composer. His passion for contemporary music has led him to perform with numerous ensembles and to collaborate regularly with countless composers from around the world.
He has performed internationally as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, SWR Orchestra, Basel Sinfonietta, at the Lucerne Festival with the LFA Orchestra, Zeiträume Festival Basel with Ensemble Recherche, Musik Festival Bern, Festival d’Autumne in Paris, Warschauer Herbst, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. He has performed as a soloist in staged productions of operas by Karhleinz Stockhausen with the Birmingham Opera Company, Musica Viva Munich, and Theater Basel. Stephen has studied at the Oberlin Conservatory, the Hochschule für Musik Basel and at the Zurich Hochschule der Künste.
Stephen lives in Basel, where he is a member of Collegium Novum Zürich and principal trombonist of the Basel Sinfonietta. Since 2024 he is a member of Ensemble Musikfabrik.
