Eva-Maria Karbacher, born in Zurich in 1992, is a saxophone player and improviser working in the fields of free improvisation, contemporary music and jazz. Her music explores all the different sound possibilities of the saxophone and combines them with melodic elements. Improvisation and a curiosity for finding new sounds is at the core of her musical work. Eva-Maria Karbacher performed all over Europe . She currently plays with the Duo Karbacher-Vryzas, the Trio UMIAK, the Duo Interrupted Lava, the Duo Around the Corner and the Unorthodoxjukebox Orchestra. Interested in interdisciplinary work, she collaborated regularly with dancers such as Maya M. Carroll, Gianna Grünig, Bettina Neuhaus and Maja Zimmerlin. Eva-Maria Karbacher studied classical saxophone and music education at the Hochschule Luzern as well as in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. Later on she broadened her abilities as an improviser at the Musikakademie Basel with a Master of Arts in Specialised Musical Performance in the improvisation class of Alfred Zimmerlin and Fred Frith.
