The DDK trio, founded in 2014 by Jacques Demierre at the Festival Météo in Mulhouse, brings together Jacques Demierre (piano), Axel Dörner (trumpet) and Jonas Kocher (accordion). For more than 10 years, the DDK Trio has been developing a singular artistic proposition that is among the most innovative in today’s creative music scene. Its music is totally focused on the moment, continuing the tradition of ‘instant composition’ going back to Lennie Tristano and the legendary Jimmy Giuffre trio. The trio deploys an expressive palette ranging from silence to massive acoustic eruptions, while paying particular attention to the precise articulation of the musical discourse.
The trio has given nearly 70 concerts across Europe, Japan, Russia and Canada. In 2019 it premiered Jacques Demierre’s composition Biotope for ensemble and improvised trio with the ensemble Contrechamps, which was performed in Geneva and at the Venice Music Biennale in 2020. In 2023, the three members of the trio co-composed Diffraction, which was premiered with the ensemble GGRIL in Rimouski, Quebec. Their latest album,
A Right to Silence, released in 2023 on the Japanese label Meenna, was hailed as one of the favourites of the year 2023 by Swiss national radio RTS.
