Christian Wolfarth is a musician who brings together virtuosity, dramaturgical skill, and technique in equal measure. His drums and cymbals give him a new dimension, and as a soloist he is also a ruthless reductionist; limited to just a few instruments, he creates music that is unprecedented, astonishing, and profound. Trained in jazz, the Zurich-based musician turned early on to various forms of new improvised and composed music. Unlike many drummers, he has never expanded his instrumentation with electronic devices, but for years he has pursued an aesthetic that, in a certain sense, can certainly be called “electronic.”
