Manoir Bruit is the sound creation programme run by association Bruit, in collaboration with Haus am Gern and Château de Sibra.
Last week, from 19 to 26 October 2024, drummer and sound artist Pascal Lopinat spent time as the third artist-in-residence at Manoir Bruit (Sibra, France), developing sounds and creating a piece of music. The result with the title (de)TUNED NOISES can be heard temporarily via the Locus Sonus livestream (and later on on the Bruit webpage) – mixed with the surrounding sounds in the park of the Chateau de Sibra. Of course, Pascal’s work can also be heard there, right on site – in and around the Manoir Bruit.
Check out the livestream to listen to Pascal Lopinat’s work!

Pascal Lopinat – (de)TUNED NOISES
(de)TUNED NOISES is a suite of 12 digital experiments using field recordings made around MANOIR BRUIT in the park of Sibra’s castle and sounds from acoustic drums and cymbals. Except for track 10, every piece is played, processed or re-amped into a TC Helicon Voicelive 3, a plastic device usually used as a vocal tool including many effects, but notably autotune.
In this context, all sources are untuned noises, which involve many computational problems in the machine’s algorithms, also called glitches. Some pieces are improvisations with parameters like gender, space or modulations, others are played with a MIDI keyboard to reconstruct abstract harmonies afterwards.
Track 10 is a field recording converted to MIDI and triggering a drum kit collecting 88 short impacts from the MANOIR BRUIT.
All sounds were recorded and smashed by Pascal Lopinat at MANOIR BRUIT (château de Sibra) between October, 20 and 25, 2025.
Special thanks to Sibylle Thomke, her team and association Bruit.
