Manoir Bruit is the sound creation programme of association Bruit, in collaboration with Haus am Gern and Château de Sibra.
From 14 to 23 May 2025, Biel/Bienne-based sound artist Laurent Güdel has been in residence at Manoir Bruit in Sibra, France, as the fourth artist invited to the programme. During his stay, he explored the local sonic environment and developped a new composition.
The resulting work is temporarily accessible via the Locus Sonus livestream as well as on the Bruit webpage – blending with the surrounding sounds of the park of the Chateau de Sibra. His piece remains also accessible at Manoir Bruit itself – both indoors and in the surrounding – as well as through Locus Sonus.

Laurent Güdel – Statement of intent
I am writing this text one day after arriving in Sibra and have not tried to anticipate anything for this residency, as I am increasingly wary of statements of intent. Nevertheless, I spotted a place on the road to Manoir Bruit: Mont Aigoual. There are large radio and TV transmitters there. I am interested in radio as an institution and from a sound perspective, but I am currently focusing on the infrastructure that enables its broadcast: the antennas and the sites that house them. I therefore recorded the vibrations and crackling of the structure using geophones.
During my stay at Manoir Bruit, I plan to record the immediate sound environment of the place and broaden the focus a little by finding some 5G antennas, radio antennas and other electricity poles in the surrounding area. These devices connect the chateau to the rest of the world and are therefore part of it. I will also use analogue synthesis, as this is my priority at the moment. And I’ll have to take into account the noise made by the frogs in the main pond between 7 and 8 p.m. The volume is unbelievable, and the way their croaking echoes in the distance is already unforgettable. So yes, I’m going to record them. So, let’s get to work and see what comes out of these recordings and experim
