Manoir Bruit is the sound creation programme run by association Bruit, in collaboration with Haus am Gern and Château de Sibra.
Last week, from 2 to 11 August 2024, Biel/Bienne-based musician and sound artist Christian Müller spent time as the first artist-in-residence at Manoir Bruit (Sibra, France), developing sounds and creating a piece of music. The result can be heard temporarily via the Locus Sonus livestream (and later on on the bruit-webpage) – mixed with the surrounding sounds in the park of the Chateau de Sibra. Of course, Christian’s work can also be heard there, right on site – in and around the Manoir Bruit. Check out the livestream to listen to Christian Müllers work!
Christian Müller about the result of his residency at the Manoir Bruit: “During my residency at the Château de Sibra and the Manoir Bruit, I created the piece ‘Grüsse von Alice’. This consists of eleven miniatures and is presented as a two-hour loop made up of the eleven miniatures and eleven parts of silence. The piece is site-specific, for the Manoir Bruit as a sounding object in the park, and thus also intended for listeners on site, but also as a purely acoustic experience via stream on Locus Sonus . The miniatures reflect various auditory impressions that I encountered in the castle park. They enrich the existing sound, reflect it, play with it, interpret it… and always leave it its very own and undisturbed space. The miniatures, some strictly composed, some improvised, are based exclusively on artificial, basic musical sounds and elements: sine waves and noise. ‘Grüsse von Alice’ and the surrounding sound of the park itself allow the place and its nature to resonate together as a multi-layered sound between nature and man’s artificial (and artistic, designed) installation.”
