A book launch and a concert.
Shortly after being introduced to improvised music, Frantz Loriot became interested in its discourse and its political dimension. Influenced by anarchist, anti-capitalist and postcolonial thinkers, he gradually developed his own approach to the practice of musical improvisation. His reflections led him to interview the musician Bertrand Denzler. During the interview, Denzler discusses various aspects of this practice, including the relationship between sounds and speech, the role of the non-idiomatic, the experience of ‘real time’, the place of the notions of freedom and equality, and that of institutions.
Musique improvisée et questions politiques, published by Bruit Editions, is a book that highlights the complexity of creativity and the links between creators and audiences, emphasising the importance of awareness of the creative act, well beyond the practice of music alone.
The two events in Biel and Paris will be preceded by DENZLER vs. LORIOT « Double Solo ». In Biel, the discussion with the authors will be led by Arianne Plomb.
Bertrand Denzler about « Double Solo » : We both play a solo, but at the same time: two simultaneous solos in the same space. Are we capable of not listening to each other, of not hearing each other, of not caring about each other, of not caring about the result of this superimposition, of not building a common language and a shared world, of living together without communicating, of living next to each other without affecting each other, of creating a disparate whole, of proving that everything works? We will not prove anything. Because we know each other, we trust each other and we cheat. But this experience should allow us to produce music that we could not have imagined otherwise.
